Punch Clock

Time tracking the crew will actually use

One tap to clock in, GPS-stamped so you know it happened on site. Timesheets build themselves, supervisors approve by exception, and payroll stops being a Monday scavenger hunt. GPS mileage tracking is included free with every seat — and seats cost $1–$2 per worker per month on company plans, or $3.50 standalone. Switching from ClockShark? See the side-by-side.

From the field

  • GPS clock-in/out — every punch is stamped with location and time. No buddy-punching from the truck across town.
  • Geofenced job sites — define the site boundary and know whether punches happened inside it.
  • Break tracking — breaks are recorded, which matters when labor law questions come up later.
  • Kiosk mode — a shared tablet at the gate for crews who do not carry smartphones.
  • Works on anything — iPhone, Android, or the web. Nothing to buy, nothing to mount (unless you want the kiosk).

For the office

  • Timesheets by person, crew, or project — hours roll up automatically from punches.
  • Approval workflow — supervisors review and approve entries; edits are tracked, not silent.
  • Labor cost summaries — see hours against the project as they accumulate, not three weeks later.
  • CSV export — hand payroll a clean file. (Direct QuickBooks export is on the roadmap.)

Time tracking connects to the rest of the job: the same people appear on daily report crew rosters, and hours land next to budgets in project analytics.

GPS mileage tracking — included free with every seat

Most time clock apps either skip mileage or bolt on odometer math at clock-out. Punch Clock records the actual route: a worker taps Start Trip, drives, and GPS computes the miles from the recorded track.

  • Every trip on a real map — admins see the route that was driven, not a typed number.
  • Trim and cut detours — forgot to stop the trip, or ran a personal errand mid-route? Trim the ends or cut the detour out of the miles.
  • Assign trips to jobs — mileage lands against the right project for billing and job costing.
  • Payroll-ready CSV — hours and miles export together in one clean file.

Mileage works for clock-only workers and full company users alike — no per-trip fee, no premium tier, no separate mileage app. For comparison, ClockShark announced basic mileage-at-clock-out as a paid-tier feature for late 2026; BuildPunch records the whole route today, free.

Punch Clock only, or part of a company plan?

You can run Punch Clock completely standalone — no project management plan required. But if you also run jobs, the seats get dramatically cheaper on a company plan, and the same login picks up punch lists, photos, drawings, and daily reports. Here is the honest math:

10 workers, clock only

$35/mo

Standalone Punch Clock — still cheaper than a ClockShark base fee plus 10 users, and mileage is included.

10 workers + run your jobs

$79/mo

Starter ($59) + 10 clock seats ($20) — time tracking and punch lists, photos, drawings, and daily reports for the whole company.

Start standalone and upgrade later — your workers, punches, and mileage history carry over. Nothing to migrate.

Time tracking questions

Can I use Punch Clock by itself, without a company plan?

Yes. Standalone Punch Clock is $3.50 per worker per month with a $10/month minimum — GPS clock-in/out, geofencing, kiosk mode, overtime rules, approvals, GPS mileage, and payroll CSV all included. Most crews save by adding it to a company plan instead: seats drop to $2 (Starter), $1.50 (Professional), or $1 (Business) per worker, and the same login runs punch lists, photos, drawings, and daily reports.

Is Punch Clock a good ClockShark alternative?

Yes — and usually a much cheaper one. As of mid-2026 published pricing, ClockShark charges a base fee plus roughly $8–$11 per user per month, with a price increase announced for September 1, 2026. Punch Clock seats run $1–$2 per worker on company plans (or $3.50 standalone), include GPS mileage free, and come with a full construction platform behind them. See the full comparison.

Does BuildPunch track mileage?

Yes — workers tap Start Trip and GPS records the actual route. Miles are computed from the recorded track, admins can review every trip on a map, trim or cut out detours, assign trips to jobs, and export to payroll CSV. Included free with every Punch Clock seat.

Does BuildPunch track my crew’s location all day?

No. GPS is captured at clock-in and clock-out punches — enough to verify someone was on site — not continuous background tracking of workers. Mileage recording only runs during a trip the worker starts and stops.

What is a geofence and how does it work?

A geofence is a boundary drawn around the job site. Punches are checked against it, so you can see whether a clock-in happened at the site or somewhere else.

How do timesheet approvals work?

Punches roll up into timesheets automatically. Supervisors review entries, approve or adjust them, and every edit is recorded — so the number payroll gets has a paper trail.

Can workers without smartphones clock in?

Yes. Kiosk mode turns a shared tablet at the site entrance into a clock-in station for the whole crew.

Can I export hours to payroll?

Yes, as CSV today — hours and mileage in a clean file most payroll systems and bookkeepers accept. Direct QuickBooks integration is on the roadmap.
